5 Group Activities Guaranteed to Make You New Friends

We get it, making friends is HARD! Especially when you’re new to a city and balancing work, the binge worthy Netflix shows, and a social life. At amiqo, we are committed to simplifying the process of meeting friends and establishing real-life, platonic relationships. Here are a few activities that we’ve personally tried and are guaranteed friend makers.

Running

Yes, running. You don’t have to be in optimum shape or run a sub-7-minute mile to join a run club, there are SO many options in cities that have grown in popularity in the last decade. Run clubs are set up to have several weekly events that vary in length, targeted work out, intensity, and location. Look out for “new member” runs or shorter lengths if you’re not already a runner. Meet ups are often at local breweries or coffee shops; they are highly social and welcoming to new faces.

Open Mics (comedy or music)

If you enjoy performing music or refining your stand up, open mics are an amazing resource for crafting your talent and meeting likeminded individuals. Open mics are incredibly supportive and often meet at venues, coffee shops, breweries, kava bars, or restaurants.

Volunteering

Volunteering within your community is rewarding mentally and physically but it’s also a heck of a way to meet some kindhearted, like-minded friends. Volunteering at food banks, animal shelters, or homeless shelters are just a few ways to get involved. There are countless efforts within cities that are always welcoming new volunteers.

Community Classes

Community classes like dancing, cycling, cooking, photography, or gardening are a perfect way to learn a new skill and make friends while doing it. Allowing yourself to be vulnerable and open to learning something new is beneficial to mental and physical health. Others enjoying these classes are likely new to the craft as well, making it easier to strike up conversations as you fumble through practices and techniques.
